SUMMARY:The Fógues
DESCRIPTION:It’s been 8 years since The Fógues\, as four energetic teenagers\, burst onto their local music scene in North Cork\, laying down a definite marker for their style; at the time an oddity among their age group. \nWith the band’s name chosen as a play on their surname\, cousins Micheál\, William and Jack Fogarty along with their friend Ted O’Brien set about creating a new sound for themselves\, paying homage to their traditional Irish roots while looking towards the future and further afield. Since then\, they have enjoyed and rode the wave of the recent folk music revival in Ireland. \nEarly successes in the Mitchelstown Busking Festival in 2017 and 2018 paved the way for The Fógues towards the big stage\, with a string of major festival appearances now under their belt. \nTheir debut album in 2020 was a snapshot of the songs they were playing at the time\, in the pubs\, marquees and halls around Munster. A mix of modern covers\, old standards and some originals\, “Long Nights in Pokey Places” provided a springboard for this group to get their music in front of a wider audience. While met with relative success on streaming platforms\, it also came at a time which we know was extremely difficult for gigging musicians. \nTheir long awaited second album comes now with a difference; an air of unfinished business and a certain freshness about it. 16 original tracks\, ranging from historical and political to lovesick and whimsical\, The Fógues take their listeners on a trip through the “Golden Vale”. \nAlthough regulars on the festival scene around Ireland\, this album showcases The Fógues as you’ve never heard them before. SUMMARY:PAUL BYROM
DESCRIPTION:Paul Byrom is considered by many to be one of Ireland’s finest crossover tenors. Starting in the business at a very young age\, the Dublin-born singer has been in the music industry for over 30 years. Paul has performed in a wide range of productions\, from operas and oratorio to recitals and in particular\, musical theatre. \nAfter releasing his first album at age 14\, Paul got a taste for recording studios and soon became a recording artist. Subsequently\, he recorded his first major album as a tenor (VELVET)\, in 2005 and swiftly followed this with his first Christmas album (I’ll Be Home for Christmas) in 2008. \nThis has led to many appearances on Irish television and national radio stations. \nPaul is also very fond of acting and made his onscreen debut in Ireland’s longest-running soap\, “FAIR CITY” where he appeared regularly as Maurice the chef for a short stint. \nHis talent as a singer has taken him far and wide\, and some of his many career highlights include performing for dignitaries such as Emperor Akihito of Japan\, former Irish Presidents Mary McAleese and Mary Robinson\, and more recently\, United States President Barack Obama. \nIn 2007\, Paul was approached to become one of the original soloists in the hit show Celtic Thunder. He toured America\, Canada and Australia with the group and had six No. 1 World Billboard Chart albums with the group. This allowed Paul to perform on many international TV shows including “The Today Show.” \nAfter leaving the production in 2010 to continue his solo career\, his subsequent album (This is the Moment) debuted at No. 1 on the World Billboard charts and was shortlisted for a Grammy nomination. \nThis has led to a successful solo touring career and he now performs his shows regularly throughout Ireland\, North America and Canada. In 2013\, Paul filmed his first solo TV special for Public Television\, called “This is the Moment Live”\, with his orchestra. It has aired throughout the United States\, Canada\, Australia and indeed at home here in Ireland. Paul followed this up with his 6th studio album\, (Thinking of Home) which reached the top of the iTunes\, Amazon and World Billboard charts and features two of his own\, original songs. He has been named IRISH TENOR OF THE YEAR by the Irish Music Association on two separate occasions. \nPaul is an avid sports fan and has been invited regularly over the past 15 years to perform the anthem for the Boston Celtics and again recently he did this on his past tour. He has also performed at six All-Ireland Finals\, and at many international rugby games including a recent performance for the Ireland v England game in Dublin. He was hugely honoured to be the official voice on “Ireland’s Call” for the Rugby World Cup in 2011 which has now been streamed over 3 million times. \nDespite 2020 being a catastrophic year for many in the music and entertainment business\, Paul released his biggest album to date with a full 65 piece orchestra (What I Did for Love). The album showcases Paul in his best light. What I Did For Love is his most crossover album to date and debuted in the top ten IMRO charts and no.1 on iTunes. \nPaul’s latest album BY CONTRAST is as the title suggests\, completely different to the previous\, in that it is an acoustic album with some of his favourite Irish and crossover songs on it. \nIn the autumn of last year\, Paul returned to Celtic Thunder after 15 years to tour with them for two months across 40 cities in America. In March of this year Paul has picked up where he left off with a recent solo tour of North America. \nChristmas Classics with Paul Byrom \nThis December Paul Byrom will be doing a number of Christmas shows in Ireland and will be coming to Ballycotton for the first time. The Christmas Classics show will be exactly that. A concert full of old and new Christmas classics. From “O holy Night”\, “White Christmas”\, “Silent night” to “I’ll Be Home For Christmas”\, “A Winter’s Tale” and many more classics. And of course there will be lots of songs where Paul will be strongly encouraging a sing along. So start practising Rudolph and Frosty the Snowman!! \nThis show will leave you full of the Christmas Spirit and promises to be a light hearted night for all the family. Such is the multi-faceted nature of their music that they’ve performed at Jazz\, Rock\, Celtic and World Music festivals in 35 countries on 5 continents; They’ve released 21 CDs\, co-composed music for 3 Oscar and Annie nominated animation films and composed Emmy nominated\, IFTA and Greison winning scores. \nWhile rooted in Irish Trad\, their music has absorbed influences from a multitude of other genres such as Latin\,\nReggae\, Rock\, Funk\, Jazz\, Classical and World Music in general. \nTheir earliest Ep Groovin’ (1991) and follow up Handel’s Fantasy (1993)demonstrated their gifted musicality. Here their own melodies danced alongside traditional ones\, The varying musical atmospheres alongside the contrasting singing styles of Colm’s full ranged romantic delivery and Rónán’s unique percussive chant like style blended to form a new yet cohesive musical expression. \n  \nWhen Mind the Gap (1995) was released their musical creativity was in full bloom and they\ncould boast that this was the first self-composed album from the Trad genre. The album has had a great response from radio presenters and music publications with some great reviews and hit the IBBA charts at the beginning of August.
