SUMMARY:JOHN BLEK
DESCRIPTION:“John Blek is Ireland’s best kept secret” The Irish Times \n“A master of subtlety in realms of folk-informed pop.” – The Thin Air \n“John’s most ambitious and creative record yet.” FOLK RADIO UK \n“It’s a perfect slice of lush alternative folk rock.” Folk/tumble \n  \nThe Midnight Ache is a staggeringly beautiful and perfectly formed piece of alternative folk with a lo-fi heart and touches of modest grandeur delivered by an artist with a voice that could break a heart in two and songs that could heal the most weary of souls. Known for being one of Ireland’s most creative and independent artists\, John Blek brings us another beautiful record of 11 new songs. This time around John has taken his DIY spirit one step further. Not only did he self record and produce the majority of the album he went so far as to build the recording studio with his own bare hands. A labour of love but labour all the same. In April 2024 Blek finished building his new creative home\, Bigger River Recording Co.\, \nand set about working on what would become The Midnight Ache. Echos of Sea Change era Beck and Sparklehorse give this record a lo-fi intimacy while the string arrangements balance the sound with an element of grandeur and sophistication. Home is very much at the heart of this new album\, it features vocal performances by John’s wife and even the cover is adorned with pressed flowers from their garden. Additional production and mixing was done by regular collaborator Brian Casey at Wavefield Recordings. “This album took me by surprise. I was slowly writing and using the songs to try to get to know the new studio space. Sonically feeling my way around and seeing what I could\nachieve when all of a sudden I realised I was looking at a new record.” The Midnight Ache will be released on the 16th of January on John’s own label Bigger River Recording Co

SUMMARY:OLIVER COLE - 'The Wingspan Tour'
DESCRIPTION:Oliver Cole\, Kells’ native\,  has released his fourth solo album\, Wingspan \n  \nFollowing the acclaim he received for his 2020 album ‘Father\, Brother\, Son’\, which was named RTE Album of the Week\, Newstalk Album of the Week\, and Irish Times Album of the Week\, Cole delivers another immersive musical journey. He describes Wingspan as less direct than his other albums\, more of a stream of consciousness approach. \n  \n‘The songs are more like faded photographs\, vignettes viewed through foggy windows. There is meaning and truth there but it must be deciphered and interpreted by the listener’ \n  \nThe songs for Wingspan were recorded in Oliver’s back garden studio\, The Cole Shed\, which he built during the Covid pandemic. With the help of long-term friends and collaborators Gav Fox (Turn\, Idlewild\, Sack)\, Graham Hopkins (The Frames\, Glen Hansard\, Therapy\, Dolores O’Riordan)\, Jason Oglesby\, and Leila Keeney. Oliver recorded and self-produced the album. \n  \nOliver describes the recording process as long and challenging\, with numerous crises of confidence moments leading to long breaks and abandoned songs. Ultimately\, it was Oliver’s long-time friend and mixing engineer\, Ciaran Bradshaw\, who stepped in and helped complete the album. \n  \nBIOGRAPHY \nHaving had some success with his first band Swampshack\, Oliver Cole formed the three-piece rock band\, Turn. Oliver was Turn’s singer\, songwriter and main guitarist\, and they soon signed to Infectious Records in London\, which was home to Muse\, Ash and Garbage\, among others. Turn enjoyed great success and popularity\, playing sell-out gigs at Vicar Street and a packed to the gills standout performance at the Oxegen festival in 2005. \n  \nThey released three Irish Top 10 albums\, ‘Antisocial’ (2000)\, ‘Forward’ (2003)\, and ‘Turn’ (2005) and were nominated for Ireland’s coveted Choice Music Award. Cole left the band in 2006 to begin work on his first solo album\, ‘We Albatri’\, which was recorded in Germany. Upon its release in 2010\, The Irish Times gave the album 5 out of 5 and made it their album of the month. \n  \nOliver continued to progress his career as both a songwriter and solo artist\, on ‘Year of The Bird’ which was released to huge critical acclaim in 2015. \n  \n‘Father Brother\, Son’\, Cole’s third album\, was released in 2020. Unearthing themes of life and loss\, birth and death\, it explored the path from grief to recovery\, following the passing of his mother and brother\, in what we have and what we leave behind

Matching their live success with industry recognition\, the band were decorated many times over with the most prestigious awards the Irish music industry has to offer. \n‘Gina\, Dale Haze and the Champions’ began in the unassuming quiet seaside village of Ballycotton in East Cork back in 1973. The bands first recorded output was the track ‘Paper Mansions’ which was released in 1973. The single gave the band a foothold in the Irish music industry and its success was soon surpassed the following year by their first hit ‘Dreams are Good Friends’\, still a favourite amongst the bands many fans. \nElevating the band to a national phenomenon was their first number one hit ‘Minnie Minnie Minnie’\, a duet with Gina and Dale Haze\, which was released in June 1975. The song was energetic\, upbeat and fun and seemed to emulate the bands spirit and characterised what was to become something of a trademark for the band. \n1978 proved to be a monumental year for Cork city born Gina\, firstly with the release of one of her biggest hits ‘The Greatest Lover’ and then to be decorated with two major awards; Gina being voted ‘Irelands Number 1 Pop Singer’ and the band being voted ‘Irelands Top band’. Amazingly this feat was to be repeated a number of times over the following years. \nMany music pundits credit Gina\, Dale Haze and the Champions with prolonging the celebrated showband and ballroom circuit by a full decade. From the Lilac Ballroom Carndonagh to the Majestic \nBallroom Mallow\, the band turned the large\, expansive dancehall spaces to a sea of people night in night out. \n‘Gina\, Dale Haze and the Champions’ made innumerable television appearances both in Ireland and Britain over the course of their lengthy career. Appearances on Gay Byrne’s famed ‘Late Late Show’ were a regular occurrence\, performing many of their hits\, such as\, The Greatest Lover\, Give me back my Love\, Dreams are Good Friends\, Drunken Sailor and many more. \nLast year the band celebrated fifty years on the road; bringing joy through music and dance to the hearts of many. To mark this monumental milestone\, Gina and The Champions released a very special Limited Edition CD set\, ‘Fifty Songs for Fifty Years’ featuring all of their many hits. Don’t miss out on one of the season’s most exciting live gigs. \nSecure your tickets now and be part of a night that celebrates great music and unforgettable nostalgia. See you there!

SUMMARY:The Rime of The Ancient Mariner
DESCRIPTION:Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s story of an epic sea journey\, written in 1797\, centres around the killing of a harmless sea-bird – the albatross.\nThe havoc wreaked by this pointless act of vandalism explodes into one of the most popular and best loved poems in the English language.\nIn an age that is increasingly aware of humanity’s relationship to\, and dependence upon the environment\, Coleridge’s ‘poem of the biosphere’ is undergoing a popular revival. And no wonder; it is a rollicking good yarn suffused with elements of the gothic and the downright ghostly…\n‘an unforgettable story told in unforgettable language’. \n  \n

With his musical partner\, Colin Linden (Dylan\, The Band\, T-Bone Burnett\, Keb Mo’)\, he played\, toured and recorded with Sam Chatmon’s Barbeque Boys\, Blind John Davis\, Little Brother Montgomery\, Sunnyland Slim\, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee…Opened shows for Muddy Waters\, John Hammond\, Jr.\, Johnny Winter…\n\nNow a celebrated\, solo storyteller-songwriter in the delta tradition\, Doc performs as many as 200 shows annually across Canada\, United States\, Ireland\, UK\, and greater southern Africa. An excellent\, real deal\, festival\, small theatre and small venue opportunity.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArtist links\, bios\, docs\, reviews\, recent tour schedules: https://docmaclean.com

SUMMARY:KATHERINE PRIDDY
DESCRIPTION:KATHERINE PRIDDY \n  \nKatherine Priddy has announced the release of her third album\,These Frightening MachinesforMarch 2026via Cooking Vinyl. The new record follows Priddy’s highly acclaimed debut TheEternal Rocks Beneathandsophomore LP The Pendulum Swing which firmly established her asone of themost exciting artistson the contemporary British music scene.Greeted with criticalacclaim in the press\, many called it “One of The Albums of the Year”. \n  \nWith her momentum showing no signs of slowing\, the release of These Frightening Machines is set to take her star even higher. Priddy has sold out headline tours and supported world class artists with her haunting vocals and distinctive finger-picking guitar style. She recently wrote and released two songs with Poet Laureate Simon Armitage and performed on the legendary BBC Later with Jools Holland TVshow. \nThe most sonically varied of her career\, the songs on Priddy’s new album span a full spectrum of emotions and explore what it means to keep going when things fall apart\, to hold onto connections in a world that sometimes divides\, and to figure out where we fit into the machines and systems we find ourselves a part of. Following the success of her first two singles “Matches”\, a powerful feminist anthem\, and “Frightening Machines”\, a deeply emotive second track\, Priddy has now shared a third preview from These Frightening Machines: new single “Hurricane”\, an expansion of her sound into a sultry groove with a cautionary tale of dangerous love
