FAT FEST: Notify

May 3 @ 8:00 pm 10:00 pm

Notify takes the stage at Sea Church on Mar 3rd, the second date of the Folk, Alternative & Traditional Music Festival (FAT Fest) 2024. And there’s more! Contemporary folk harpist, singer and composer BRÍDÍN will feature the gig.

NOTIFY are a 6 piece Irish based contemporary instrumental ensemble. The band were formed in 2014 following the success of their debut 2013 album of the same name. The band consists of Pádraig Rynne (Concertina), Tara Breen (Fiddle), Davie Ryan (Drums), Rory McCarthy (Piano & Rhodes), Adam Taylor (Electric Bass) and Hugh Dillon (Acoustic & Electric Guitars).

NOTIFY seamlessly fuses a deep knowledge and respect for musical tradition with forward thinking innovation in a tasteful way that connects with audiences worldwide.

The formation of musicians with backgrounds in Traditional Irish music, Jazz, Folk and Popular music has naturally established a system of balance that instantly draws listeners to their music.

To date they have released two full length albums and one EP. NOTIFY was released in 2013 as a solo project by Pádraig Rynne and it debuted at No 20 in the iTunes World music charts upon its release. Such was its popularity that a band was created to tour the album which has now grown into the six current members over time. In 2015, NOTIFY signed with world famous American jazz label Ropeadope.

The band’s second album, released in 2016, premiered at the No. 1 spot in the iTunes jazz charts and at No. 9 in the mainstream iTunes charts.

Well known for their High-Profile collaborations, NOTIFY have invited guests such as Seamus and Caoimhe Uí Fhlatharta, Mark Lettieri & Jason Thomas (4 time Grammy award winners with Snarky Puppy), Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh and Kris Drever to perform and tour with them in recent years.

The band delivers an evocative repertoire of original compositions, produced with sensitive electronic overlays and inventive arrangements that are “cinematic in scope” (New York Echo).

At the crossroads of a new movement in Irish music, “NOTIFY breathes new life into their music, with a musical tapestry that ranges from soft melodies to crashing crescendos” (The Irish Times).

With a new album entitled “Arineán” due for release in February 2024 and upcoming high profile collaborations with The Irish Concertina Orchestra, Bill Whelan, Cormac McCarthy and the MGCE Concert Orchestra, the bands star continues to rise and their constant musical evolution puts them at the fore of exploration into Irish music and beyond.

She carries on the tradition of Irish music into the fourth generation of her family. Over the years she has achieved many accolades for her musical ability including RTÉ Folk Awards Nominee and All Ireland Titles. Her love of music led her to pursue a musical career, having studied music at University College Cork achieving a degree in Music and Irish and Masters in Music and Performance.

BRÍDÍN has developed her own style influenced by her natural surroundings and rooted in her background in traditional Irish music. BRÍDÍN uses her loop and effect pedals to create her musical pieces. Her layered melodies on harp and voice blend beautifully with contrapuntal fiddle, cello and woven together with pulsating drums.

BRÍDÍN grew up in a funeral home and is a funeral director and embalmer at her father’s funeral home in Sligo and has always found from a young age she has been fascinated by life and death. ‘I’m fascinated by the constant flow of nature and the beginning and ending of life.’ This has helped her form a great appreciation of life and inspires her music. ‘Music is my love, emotional outlet and acts as my healer’.
Speaking about her debut, self-titled album just released; ‘This album is my best work yet, I’m so proud of every last note and the musicians who have joined me. I can feel a real honest journey throughout of grief and healing, and I hope it helps people as
much as it’s helped me.’

BRÍDÍN’s recent national television performances include ‘The Late Late Show’, ‘The Tommy Tiernan Show’, ‘Ireland AM’ and ‘The Main Stage’ and many national radio interviews and live studio sessions. Performed on the main stage at Electric Picnic and more with Denise Chaila 2022.
