Alter Egos @ Chris Kent & John Meagher
June 7 @ 8:30 pm – 10:00 pm
Alter Egos Comedy Club is back on June 7th
Hosted by Corks own Chris Kent, Alter Egos @ Sea Church presents a brand new Stand Up comedy series giving the hard-working comedians of Ireland a platform.
This will be an opportunity to launch Irelands next comedy superstars who are waiting for an opportunity to showcase their talents.
Featuring: Chris Kent, John Meagher & Colm McGlinchey.
Host – Chris Kent
Hailing from ‘The Rebel County’ (That’s Cork for anyone outside Ireland), Chris gave up the day job as an electrician to pursue his calling in comedy. He emerged onto the Irish comedy scene in 2009 after winning the Bulmers Nuttin’ But Funny competition.
“He really makes me laugh and I think his stuff is so smart, he would be one of the best comics that I would have seen. He’s Fantastic” TOMMY TIERNAN
Headliner – John Meagher
After nominations for the BBC New Comedy Award, and Irish Comedian of the Year, John was a finalist in the Hackney Empire New Act of The Year, and Leicester Sq Theatre New Comedian of the Year awards. In 2022 he was runner up in the prestigious Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year, before winning the Panel Prize at the 2022 Edinburgh Fringe as part of “Best in Class” the working-class stand-up showcase.
This success has gained John a following for his timely writing and bold performances and seen him
recognised as one of Ireland’s top new comedians, and in demand as an important working-class voice.
He has supported legendary Irish comedian Patrick Kielty on his recent 5 month long “Borderlines” tour and works at all the major UK and Irish Comedy Clubs.
Before his life in stand-up comedy, John was a Martial Artist and fought for the Irish team at the World
Karate Championships, as well as training for years in mixed Martial Arts – think Joe Rogan if he believed in vaccines.
“John is a very sharp comedian…with a subtlety to his stuff I didn’t have (in younger days)” – Patrick Kielty. Irish independent 23.04.22
“…it was like watching a young Irish Billy Connolly” – John Meagher (no relation!) “The Irish Times”
“Great timing, great presence and punchlines. A much needed fresh comic voice from Northern Ireland at a time when we most need to hear it.” – Jarlath Regan (An Irishman Abroad Podcast)
“Hilarious. Sharp. Poetic” – Leicester Square Theatre, London
“…grabbed the gig by the scruff of its neck with a loud, fast and punchy delivery.” – Steve Bennett @Chortle
“A Compact, confident, powerful storyteller with a keen comic eye” – Bruce Dessau
Opener – Colm McGlinchey
Founder and resident MC of Dublin’s iconic ‘The Comedy Crunch,’ Colm McGlinchey is a familiar face on the Irish comedy circuit.
McGlinchey has performed across the UK, Ireland and Europe, including at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival & Paddy Power Comedy Festival.
“McGlinchey gets the job done, and has the crowd in the palm of his hand.” – Steve Bennett, Chortle
